MANILA, Philippines — The country has recorded a 59-percent increase in COVID-19 cases among all age groups in the previous two weeks, the Department of Health (DOH) said Monday.

In a statement, the DOH said “there was an overall 59% increase in cases among all age groups during the period of July 13 to 25 compared with July 26 to August 8.”

“Additionally, among the age groups, the highest increase was observed among the 30-39 age group and lowest among those 80 years old and above during the same period,” the agency added.

(We understand the fear of the public about news that COVID-19 cases are increasing among kids. However, we should clarify that the increase in cases is being seen among all age groups and not just among kids.)

Vergeire also reiterated that due to the global scarcity in vaccine supply, the country’s COVID-19 vaccination program is following priority groups in order to allocate the vaccines to those who need them the most.
