MANILA, Philippines — The country had a record 11,021 new COVID-19 infections, according to the Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday, causing the number of active cases to soar to 76,063.

The DOH’s August 7 COVID-19 bulletin showed that the latest count of new cases – the highest since Apil 17 has brought the tally of confirmed coronavirus infections in the country to 1,649,341.

Also on Saturday, the DOH reported the recovery of 9,194 patients as well as the demise of 162 which increased the total recovered cases to 1,544,443 and the death toll to 28,835.

The health agency explained that of the current 76,063 active cases, 93 percent have mild symptoms while 3 percent are asymptomatic and that 1.8 percent are severe; 1.19 percent, moderate; and one percent, critical.

In terms of hospital occupancy, the DOH said 62 percent of ICU beds, 54 percent of isolation beds, 55 percent of ward beds, and 43 percent of ventilators nationwide are utilized.

In Metro Manila, 59 percent of ICU beds, 54 percent of isolation beds, 53 percent of ward beds, and 46 percent of ventilators are being used, the DOH added.
