2 Chinese fishermen found dead off Palawan, 2 others rescued

MANILA, Philippines — Two Chinese fishermen were found dead in the waters off Palawan, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported on Saturday.

In an incident report, the PCG said that a Filipino fisherman, Mario Mabuhay, spotted four fishermen – two of them dead, on a rescue boat off Barangay Canipaan in Rizal, Palawan on August 5.

Mabuhay towed the rescue boat to shore.

The search and rescue team brought the two survivors to the nearest hospital while the two casualties, whose identities are yet to be determined, were transported to the nearest funeral home.

Fu Wanke and Lu Yunian, the survivors from Hainan, China, said that they encountered strong waves and rough sea conditions while fishing and drifted to the waters off Palawan.

The Chinese Embassy extended its gratitude to the local fisherman and authorities for responding to the maritime incident.

“The Chinese Embassy expressed its deep appreciation to the Philippine fishermen and authorities concerned for providing humanitarian assistance to the Chinese fishermen in a timely manner, which fully reflects their goodwill and the valuable friendship between the Chinese and Philippine peoples,” the embassy said in a Twitter post on Friday evening.
