Program to prevent malnutrition launched
MANILA, Philippines — As the incidence of hunger worsened amid the pandemic, the Kain Tayo Pilipinas campaign was launched on Tuesday to prevent malnutrition by focusing on mothers and young children.
The private sector-led program aims to end malnutrition by concentrating on the first 1,000 days of a child, which starts from the mother’s pregnancy until the child reaches 3 years old. Kristine Go further explained that preventing malnutrition from the start of pregnancy is crucial as the biggest development of a child happens during this period.
Kain Tayo is one of the flagship programs of Pilipinas Kontra Gutom, which started in November 2020 with six partner companies, but eventually grew to around 70 partner nongovernmental organizations, foundations and private companies.
