Duterte to LGUs: Tell us if you don’t have refrigeration for COVID-19 vaccines

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte urged local government units on Monday to tell the national government if they no refrigeration facilities to store COVID-19 vaccines to prevent wasting them.

“The problem is you must have the refrigeration. If you do not have one, tell us in advance so that we won’t make a mistake of bringing vaccines. If you don’t have the equipment to keep the temperature desired for vaccines, they will just go to waste,” Duterte said in Filipino in his taped weekly briefing on the COVID-19 situation in the Philippines.

According to Duterte, all government assets are being used to deliver the COVID-19 vaccines to far-flung areas.

The Philippines has so far administered over 10 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines. More than 2.5 million individuals have so far been fully vaccinated — that is, they have received two doses of the jab.

The government aims to administer 500,000 doses of the COVID-19 daily to achieve herd immunity by the end of 2021.
