PNP logs 1 new COVID-19 death; 143 new cases

MANILA, Philippines —  Another police officer has succumbed to COVID-19, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday as it records 143 new infection cases in its ranks.

According to the PNP’s Public Information Office, the 47-year-old Police Executive Master Sergeant from Tagum City, Davao del Norte died on Monday, May 31. The officer was the 67th COVID-19 death in the national police.

The newest death also brings the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the PNP to 67 and infections at 24,253, as of June 2, according to the PNP’s daily tally on Facebook.

The PNP health service also reported that it currently has 1,650 active cases and 22,536 total recoveries (236 new).

Meanwhile, as of June 1, total COVID-19 infections nationwide is currently at 1,235,467 with 53,203 active cases, 1,161,252 recoveries and 21,012 deaths.
