MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported an additional 5,177 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, pushing the total active cases in the country to 53,203.

This is 4.3 percent of all the 1,235,467 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines, the DOH said in its latest case bulletin.

Meanwhile, an additional 6,230 recoveries brought the number of patients who have recovered to 1,161,252, or 94 percent of the overall count.

There were also 46 new deaths, bringing the death toll to 21,012.

The DOH said 11.7 percent of the 36,978 people who were tested were found positive for coronavirus.

According to the DOH, all laboratories were operational on Sunday while 10 laboratories were not able to submit their data. Based on data in the last 14 days, the 10 non-reporting labs contribute, on average, 4.3 percent of samples tested and 6.6 percent of positive individuals.

Eleven duplicate entries, including eight recoveries, were removed from the case count, while 15 cases tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths following validation.
