Fire razes 4 classrooms, 2 houses, madrasah in Jolo, Sulu
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Zamboanga del Sur—A fire razed four classrooms, a madrasah and two residential houses in Jolo, Sulu on Monday night (May 31).
Brigadier General Michael Bawayan, Sulu police director, said the fire started at around 11:50 p.m. inside the Laud Lambayong Elementary School in Busbus village and spread to nearby structures. It was put off more than an hour later.
Bawayan said they were able to prevent looters at the height of the fire with the deployment of police officers to cordon off the area.
Leny Basiri, school principal of Laud Lambayong Elementary School, reported that her office was also razed apart from the classrooms.
“We are extremely anxious because our school files, printers, bond papers allotted for modules and other paraphernalia have been consumed by the fire. Distribution of the modules to the students may be delayed due to this incident,” she said.
