DOH: 141 new fatalities push COVID-19 death toll to 19,763

Philippines reports record increase of 382 deaths due to COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 19,763 individuals in the country have died due to COVID-19 complications, government data on Friday showed.

The latest case bulletin from the Department of Health (DOH) showed that 141 more patients have died as the government works toward decreasing the number of active cases.

The total COVID-19 death toll represents 1.69 percent of all the 1,171,403 confirmed cases in the country. The country representative of the World Health Organization earlier cited the Philippines for maintaining a low case fatality rate among COVID-19 patients.

Also on Friday, the DOH reported a total of 55,531 active cases of COVID-19.

Of this number, 93.5 percent are mild, 2 percent are asymptomatic, 1.22 percent are moderate, 1.8 percent are severe, and 1.4 percent are critical cases.

COVID-19 deaths from May 15 to 21 totaled 827, or an average of 118 deaths reported per day.

Meanwhile, deaths from the previous week from May 8 to 14 totaled 861, or an average of 123 deaths per day.
