MANILA, Philippines — The low-pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Mindanao and outside the Philippine area of responsibility has a minimal chance of developing into a tropical depression, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Monday.

Pagasa weather specialist Loriedin dela Cruz , however, said the LPA, last spotted 1,695 kilometers east of Mindanao, may still bring rains to parts of Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao on Wednesday and Thursday.

(Based on our analysis, there is a low chance that this LPA may develop into a tropical depression, although we are advising our countrymen especially those in Visayas, Mindanao and other parts of Southern Luzon to prepare for possible rains on Wednesday and Thursday this week.)

Based on Pagasa’s forecast, Batanes and Babuyan Islands will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon or “amihan”.
