Leadership, action, direction needed amid pressing problems, says Cavite gov

MANILA, Philippines — Filipinos need leadership and direction amid the surge of COVID-19 cases and other economic issues, Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla said Monday.

Remulla made the remark as he noted that most of the solutions to the pressing problems of the country can only come from the national government.

He noted for instance the increase in prices of pork and chicken, vaccine rollout, inflation, and economic recession as among the issues he does not have control of.

 “Kung kaya ko lang sana bigyang solusyon ang lahat ng issues bilang Punong Panlalawigan? Nakatitiyak ang lahat na ito ay gagampanan ko agad. No questions asked,” he said.

 (If only I can provide a solution to all the issues as the Cavite governor, I am certain that I can fulfill it all. No questions asked.)

 “So here’s what I think: The people need ACTION. The Filipinos need LEADERSHIP. We are waiting for DIRECTION. We desperately need SOLUTIONS. Can someone PLEASE take charge? Let us not wait before it is too late,” he added.

 Remulla also made this call as he revealed that the number of new COVID-19 cases in Cavite now ranges from 60 to 130 cases per day from the previous nine to 15 new cases daily.

 “May pangambang kumalat na rin ang bagong strain na nanggaling sa UK, Brazil at South Africa,” he also said.

 (There is fear that the new variants from the UK, Brazil and South Africa have already spread.)

 Remulla added that he received reports that several hospitals in the province have full emergency rooms.

 On Sunday, the Department of Health (DOH) reported an additional 3,276 cases of COVID-19, pushing the number of total coronavirus cases in the country to 594,412.

It was the third straight day that the health department reported new cases that breached the 3,000-mark. 

Of the total count, 36,043 are active cases, 545,853 are recoveries, and 12,516 are deaths.

 Based on the COVID-19 tracker of the DOH, Cavite has already recorded a total of 27,832 coronavirus cases, including 1,312 active cases, 26,178 recoveries, and 342 deaths as of Sunday.
