Vendor gunned down, bystander wounded in Lucena shooting

LUCENA CITY – A vegetable vendor was shot and killed while a bystander was wounded by a stray bullet here Saturday afternoon.

The Quezon police said two armed suspects shot and killed Rufino Mahiya, 42, in front of his residence in Barangay Market View at around 5:15 p.m.

Police said bystander Edgardo Palma, 60, was hit by a stray bullet.

The assailants fled the crime scene on foot.

Mahiya expired while being transported to hospital.

Further investigation is ongoing.
