MANILA, Philippines — The trough or extension of a low pressure area (LPA) will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Soccsksargen and Davao regions on Thursday, according to the state weather bureau.

The LPA was last spotted 820 east of Davao City, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 4 a.m. weather bulletin.

Pagasa weather specialist Shelly Ignacio said the weather bureau is not discounting the possibility that the LPA could develop into a tropical depression, but as of now, it is not likely to intensify into a tropical cyclone.

“Inaasahan po natin na ito ay tatawid sa gitnang bahagi ng ating bansa. Sa mga susunod na araw, maaari pong maging maulan sa gitnang bahagi ng ating bansa,” she added.

(We expect that the LPA would cross the central portion of our country. In the coming days, it might bring rains in the central portion of the country.)
