Oriental Mindoro landslide kills 2 year-old girl

CITY OF CALAPAN – A two year -old girl perished when a landslide triggered by heavy rains struck eight houses Friday afternoon in Socorro, Oriental Mindoro.

Police Lieutenant Imelda Tolentino, Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan (Mimaropa) regional police information officer, said that Joanna Mae Ayen, 2, was in her family’s  residence in Barangay  Mabuhay 2 when the landslide hit at around 1 p.m.

The victim was taken to the Grace Mission Hospital along with her father Jhona, 25, who suffered minor injuries due to the landslide.

Jonna Mae, however, expired while on the way to hospital.

Police reported that rained heavily for approximately three hours prior to the landslide.

Meanwhile, the local disaster risk reduction and management office is conducting damage assessment in the area.
