Second alarm remains over Marikina River as its level rises further

MANILA, Philippines — The second alarm remains raised over the Marikina River as its water level rose further to 17 meters due to rains brought by Typhoon Ulysses, the Marikina Public Information Office (PIO) said early Thursday morning.

With the second alert up, residents living in low-lying areas near the river were advised to go on preemptive evacuation.

The water level reached the 16-meter mark at 1:01 a.m., while the river reached the 17-meter height as of 2:13 a.m.

The first alarm was raised before 11:00 p.m. after the water level reached 15 meters on Wednesday night.

Forced evacuation is conducted once the water level reaches over 18 meters.
