MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police Major General Debold Sinas urged police personnel to “walk the talk” when upholding the rule of law as he officially takes the helm of the nation’s police organization.

“To the men and women of PNP, I expect nonetheless, together with the command group, that we will solidly volt in one aspiration in achieving the mandate of peace and frontliners in upholding the rule of law. Kung hindi kayo makiki-volt-in sa amin, si Voltes V na mismo ang mag-evict sa inyo (If you won’t volt in, Voltes V will be the one who will evict you.),” Sinas said in speech during the PNP change of command at Camp Crame, quoting the iconic line “let’s volt in” from his favorite Japanese anime series, Voltes V.

“Lagi nating tandaan ang sinumpaang tungkulin bilang pagpapatupad ng batas. Simple ang gusto ko bilang ama ng organization: We should walk the talk in PNP. Magtrabaho tayo ayon sa mandato, tungo para sa ligtas at tahimik na mamamayan,” he further said.

President Rodrigo Duterte designated Sinas to take the helm of over 250,000 members of the police organization. He will replace outgoing chief Police General Camilo Cascolan, who reached the mandatory age of 56 this Tuesday.

Sinas, who allegedly violated quarantine rules over the controversial mañanita birthday celebration, also vowed that “adherence to health protocols will be extremely enforced” among his personnel.

“It is almost a year since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, yet the PNP stood its ground without hesitation in serving communities and we shall continue to do so,” Sinas said.

“PNP will not halt in providing our police services through our community policy programs until we reach normalcy. In line with the challenges we face we as frontliners in combating the COVID-19. We will ensure that the health of PNP personnel will not be compromised,” he added.

Sinas is the country’s 25th official to lead the nation’s police force and the fifth PNP chief under the Duterte administration.
