Naia to temporarily stop flight operations due to Rolly threat

MANILA, Philippines — The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) will temporarily halt flight operations starting Sunday due to the possible impacts of Typhoon Rolly in the country, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said Saturday.

In a statement, MIAA general manager Ed Monreal said the closure of all NAIA terminals is from November 1, Sunday at 10 a.m. to  November 2, Monday at 10 a.m.

Monreal appealed to airline passengers not to enter during the closure.

“[Monreal] advises passengers to immediately coordinate with their airlines to get instructions about their new flight schedules. Airlines were also told to make sure that their customer service hotlines are ready to take in the expected surge of calls from passengers,” read the statement from MIAA.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announced that Typhoon Rolly will likely make landfall in the early morning of Sunday and then it will also cross over Camarines provinces and Quezon province.

Pagasa said violent winds and intense rains will be expected over Catanduanes, Camarines Provinces Sunday early morning through afternoon and over Quezon Sunday afternoon through evening.
