House panel OKs stockpiling of medicines
MANILA, Philippines — The House health committee has endorsed the stockpiling of medicines, including provisions for COVID-19 vaccine, and other medical supplies to ensure adequate supply during public health crises such as the pandemic.
In a hearing last week, the panel approved House Bill No. 6995 authored by the committee chair, Quezon Rep. Angelina Tan, and created a technical working group to incorporate input and suggestions from the other members.
Among others, the bill creates a “Health Procurement and Stockpiling Bureau” within the Department of Health (DOH).
The new bureau, which will absorb the DOH procurement office, shall be mandated to procure supplies preferably from local sources.
