BAGUIO CITY—Abra’s youngest COVID-19 patient celebrated her fourth birthday last Aug. 11 inside the province’s quarantine facility, one day before she was discharged after healing from the disease that has no known cure yet.

Health care workers surprised the girl from Sallapadan town with birthday cakes and balloons on Tuesday (Aug. 11).

On Wednesday (Aug. 12), the girl got what could be her best birthday present when she was sent home after her reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test revealed she was no longer carried the virus. RT-PCR tests are designed to detect antigens, or foreign matter in the human body that could include viruses.

The girl was among the close contacts of Abra’s 14th patient- a police officer from Sallapadan who recently traveled to Baguio City.

As of Aug. 12, Abra has 38 COVID-19 cases.
