Pregnant partner of deceased COVID-19 patient vows to love her ‘soulmate’ forever

After COVID-19 took the life of a police officer who was an expectant father of twins, his pregnant partner promises to love him “forever” as she grieves the death of her “soulmate.”

The 45-year-old Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officer, Valentin Martinez, died on July 24, as per ABC-affiliate KABC today, Aug. 7.

During his funeral service yesterday, Aug. 6, his partner, Megan Flynn, spoke about her hope that their twin sons would grow up to be honest and kind men, just like their father.

“Val, maybe our fantasy love story has turned into a tragic love story but the years we shared together will forever be the best years of my life,” she was quoted as saying. “You are my soulmate. I promise to love you forever and I’ll never stop.”

Martinez was a veteran officer who served in the force for 13 years. He was LAPD’s first officer and second employee to die from COVID-19.

The officer most likely contracted the virus while on patrol, according to the report. He tested positive in May and was hospitalized by June.

A fundraiser has also been set up to help with his funeral expenses.

“My mother was his world to him, [he] was so excited for twins boys,” his brother Ricardo Martinez said on the GoFundMe page he organized on July 24.
