Electrician saves woman who collapsed in grocery by performing CPR

An electrician is being hailed a hero after he administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to a woman who collapsed in a grocery store.

Justin Thomas spotted the woman while shopping in the same establishment in Texas, United States last Thursday, June 18.

Thomas said he moved toward the woman’s direction after hearing her scream, as per NBC-affiliate KPRC-TV on June 20. Upon seeing her splayed out on the floor, he immediately went down on his knees to administer CPR.

“I literally saw where her sternum was. I put my forearm with my fingers back and just started pumping her chest,” Thomas was quoted as saying.

He also noted that the woman seemed to be in cardiac arrest at the time. Another customer later helped Thomas, and they took turns administering chest compressions to the woman until paramedics arrived.

Following the incident, Thomas has kept in contact with the woman’s family.

“The doctors told her that if it wasn’t for the quick actions, she wouldn’t have made it,” Thomas told the news outlet.

While his decision kept someone from passing away, Thomas insists that he is not a hero.

“I just saw someone in need,” he said. “I didn’t even think about it, I just jumped in to help,”

He also pointed out that the incident had left him with a “strange feeling” since he still had all the adrenaline from the rescue while having to get milk from the store for his twins.

Along with being an electrician, Thomas has a background in medicine and served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 10 years as well. According to the report, he is required to know CPR for his current job and renews his training and certification annually. Ryan Arcadio/NVG
