Negros Oriental city councilor shot dead

MANILA, Philippines — A city councilor in Negros Oriental was shot dead by two unidentified assailants aboard a motorcycle on Tuesday morning.

Police said the victim, Alex Tizon, 66, of Bayawan City, was driving his vehicle along a national highway in Brgy. Villareal at around 10:40 a.m. when assailants overtook his vehicle and fired shots at him, killing him instantly.

Recovered from the crime scene were four fired cartridges of a 9-millimeter revolver.

The assistance of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) was requested. Police are also already in hot pursuit of the suspects.

The motive for the killing is yet to be established by police.
