ASF spreads to 2 Davao del Sur villages
DIGOS CITY –– The Department of Agriculture (DA) in Region 12 has confirmed the spread of African swine fever (ASF) in two villages of Davao del Sur.
Ricardo Oñate, DA-11 regional director, reported to Davao del Sur Governor Douglas Cagas on Wednesday that blood samples of pigs from Barangay Palili and Barangay Laperas, both in Sulop town, were found positive of the ASF virus.
On Monday, the provincial veterinary office implemented a lockdown in Barangay Solongvale, Palili, and Laperas in Sulop, and also in Barangay Aplaya of Hagonoy town because of possible ASF infection among the hogs there.
Dr. Russel Celis, Davao del Sur provincial veterinarian, said they were conducting an inventory of hogs in the two villages of Sulop for depopulation, in compliance with DA regulations.
