Priority lanes for elderly, pregnant, PWDs sought
A Manila city councilor is seeking to enshrine in local law the simple courtesy of giving way to the elderly, the disabled and pregnant women.
In a draft ordinance, Manila fourth district councilor DJ Bagatsing has proposed that a special priority lane be enforced in all establishments in the city.
The suggested “Manila Mabuhay Priority Lane” will be for the exclusive use of senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs) or medical conditions, and pregnant women.
“In their delicate state, they deserve some special concern and care from all sectors. This is one positive step in further improving their condition and welfare and can be the city’s gift to them this New Year,” Bagatsing said.
Establishments being asked to create at least one “priority lane” include government and private offices including hospitals, drug stores, banks, public transport terminals, payment centers, educational institutions, supermarkets and stores, hotels, restaurants, and any recreation center.
