3.8 magnitude quake rocks Davao del Sur

MAGSAYSAY, Davao del Sur – A 3.8-magnitude earthquake struck here on Thursday, December 26.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake, of tectonic origin, hit three kilometers northwest of the town at 4:08 p.m.

The depth of focus was two kilometers.

The quake was felt at Intensity 3 in Magsaysay, Davao del Sur and Intensity 2 in Bansalan, Davao del Sur.

No damage to property nor aftershock was expected.

Some of the evacuees here were alarmed by the tremor, fearing that another strong quake will occur.

Teresita Gambi, 45, says she will continue staying at the evacuation camp in Brgy. Poblacion because her house sustained heavy damage during the four big quakes.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said that a total of 2,000 houses in Brgy. Poblacion incurred major damages after the magnitude 6.9 tremor hit the town on December 15.
