Sea travelers get stranded at N. Samar ports due to Typhoon Tisoy
CATARMAN, Northern Samar – At least 1,219 passengers have been stranded in the different ports here due to bad weather brought about by Typhoon Tisoy.
Of the total number, 950 passengers were stuck at the Allen port, 84 at Balwharteco Port, 154 at the Sta. Clara Port, and 31 at the Philippine Arch Ferries Port.
Some 213 families comprising of 944 individuals from the coastal villages of Cawayan, Baybay, and Dalakit have transferred to their respective evacuation areas.
Based on a report from the Department of Public Works and Highways, all major roads and bridges in northern Samar remain passable.
At around midnight, communication lines remained stable but electricity started to get intermittent.
All municipal and village operation centers are on red alert status.
Classes in all levels are suspended on Monday, December 2. Three local government units have declared work suspension: Laoang, San Jose, and Palapag.
Meanwhile, Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia ordered the suspension of classes in all levels in northern Cebu as well as for preschool and elementary levels in Metro Cebu.
At 1 p.m. today, Garcia will convene the provincial disaster risk reduction and management office for risk assessment and further preparations for Typhoon Tisoy.
