Gov’t ready for Typhoon Tisoy’s impact,  P2- B fund on standby, says Panelo

MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang on Monday assured the public that the government is ready for the impact of Typhoon Tisoy as it inches closer to the Philippines.

“The Office of the President is closely monitoring the areas likely to be hit by Typhoon Tisoy,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.

Panelo added that the Department of Social Welfare and Development has already prepositioned relief goods and has a standby fund of P2,000,423,863.03 as of December 1, 2019.

In it’s 8 a.m. weather bulletin, the state weather bureau said Tisoy was last spotted 275 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes.

Tisoy has maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour with a gustiness of up to 185 kph.

It is is expected to make landfall over Catanduanes or Albay between Monday night and early Tuesday morning.

‘Be alert, vigilant’

Panelo urged the public to be vigilant and be updated on weather bulletins.

“We ask the public, especially residents who will be affected by the typhoon to stay vigilant, check the latest weather advisory in their respective areas through government social media accounts and coordinate with their local disaster and risk reduction management offices for appropriate and responsive action,” he said.

He said the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Operation Center maintained its blue alert as Tisoy is expected to make landfall in less than 24 hours.

Concerned disaster-related agencies, he said, “are now on standby 24/7.”
