Displaced vendors in QC score 2nd chance with night market
MANILA, Philippines — Vendors displaced in Quezon City due to the nationwide road clearing operations will now have the opportunity to sell their goods in the city once again.
This is through the efforts of the Quezon City local government as it announced the upcoming “Sari-Sari Kyusi: The Quezon City Night Market” on Thursday.
“The Quezon City government wanted to establish and develop a space for street vendors who had lost their livelihood because of the clearing operations,” Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said in a statement.
“This is not just a night market as we will provide a stage for homegrown Quezon City talents to perform live acts,” Belmonte added. “We also have other activities like student mural painting, community events and inter call center competitions.”
The local government said it also came up with the “Suki sa Kyusi Club,” a government-initiated organization aiming to legitimize vendors by “guiding them to responsible entrepreneurship and financial stability.”
The “Sar-Sari Kyusi” market will run from Nov. 23 to Jan. 19, 2020. It will be located at the TUCP Compound, at the corner of Elliptical and Maharlika roads, as well as Ayala Vertis North.
