Talisay assessor gets one year for graft

A CEBU City trial court convicted the municipal assessor of Talisay City for violating the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act last Wednesday .

Alma Abellanosa was meted an imprisonment of one year for purportedly issuing a tax declaration despite non-compliance of some requirements by the party.

She was also disqualified from holding a position in the government.

In 2000, Abellanosa was accused of participating in the transaction involving the sale of a land in barangay Maghaway in Talisay City.

She issued the Tax Declaration in the name of Edwin and Rosalina Nacua although not all requirements were met.

Abellanosa also allegedly want to obtain P20,000 from the vendor of the lot.

Regional Trial Court Judge Sylvia Aguirre-Paderanga of Branch 16 found sufficient basis against Abellanosa./REPORTER ADOR VINCENT S. MAYOL
