3 killed, 46 arrested in saturation drive – Manila police

MANILA, Philippines – Three drug suspects were killed while 46 other individuals were arrested for various offenses during a simultaneous anti-criminality law enforcement operation conducted by the Manila Police District (MPD) at the Baseco compound Sunday afternoon.

Twenty-one individuals were arrested for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Anti-illegal Drugs Act of 2002, while twenty-five were apprehended for violating city ordinances.

Police said the three drug suspects were killed in an encounter with authorities during the operation.

“Ito [ay] malakihang operation na sabay sabay, para magkaroon siya ng magandang impact, so kagaya nga ng ating naiulat nagkaroon ito ng resulta ng maraming arrests and operations,” said Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) in a Radyo Inquirer interview on Monday.

Police also seized two hand grenades, two rifle grenades, 62 firearms, ammunition, eight video karera machines and 50 grams of crystal meth (shabu). /gsg
