LRT-1 to start operations earlier to allow for system upgrades

MANILA, Philippines — The Light Rail Transit-1 (LRT-1) will be operating at an earlier schedule starting July 29 to allow for system upgrades and improvement of its train service, the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) said on Friday.

According to the LRMC, starting July 29, the last train from Baclaran (northbound) will leave at 9:30 p.m. while the train from Roosevelt (southbound) will depart at 9:45 p.m. everyday.

LRMC said all northbound and southbound trips of the LRT-1 line begin at 4:30 a.m.

LRMC Operations Director Bobby San Jose said the LRT-1 rehabilitation will include “replacement of auxiliary power, train control and monitoring system.”

San Jose said the rehabilitation will offer a safer and reliable train system for commuters.

“We want to give our commuters a quality transportation that they deserve. And to be able to provide them a safe, reliable, efficient, and comfortable journey, we need to update and upgrade our signalling system,” San Jose said in a statement.

LRMC said the maintenance and rehabilitation works of the LRT-1 line is expected to be finished by October 2020.  (Editor: Mike U. Frialde)
