4-year-old boy dies after being hit by cop’s SUV in Pasay
MANILA, Philippines — A 4-year-old boy was killed after he was hit by a sports utility vehicle being driven by a police officer as he played in the streets of Baclaran in Pasay City on Wednesday afternoon.
A report from the Pasay police said that Cpl. Ramil Avecilla, assigned at the Baclaran police community precinct (PCP), was driving his Mitsubishi Montero sports utility vehicle along Kapitan Ambo Street in Barangay 78 Zone 10 at 4:20 p.m when he hit the victim, who was later identified as Camilo Asis.
Asis was rushed to Pasay City General Hospital but was pronounced dead at around 5:23 p.m.
Col. Bernard Yang, station commander of Pasay police, told INQUIRER.net that Avecilla claims to have not seen the boy as the streets in Baclaran were crowded.
“Naglalaro ng bata sa kalsada… Sa Baclaran kasi medyo masikip at maraming tindahan,” Yang said in a phone interview.
Anabel Cagoco, the victim’s mother, has yet to file a case against Avecilla as she is still busy preparing for her son’s funeral..

Avecilla is now under the custody of the Baclaran PCP while the Pasay police is still conducting a further investigation of the incident. (Editor: Mike U. Frialde)
