2 ‘couriers’ of bomb materials collared in Quezon

LUCENA CITY –– Army soldiers and policemen arrested two suspected couriers of explosive materials in two operations in Pagbilao town in Quezon province on Wednesday.

Acting on information that explosive materials will be transported to the Bicol region, the government forces conducted surveillance operations and eventually arrested Noel Clarianes, 57, in Barangay Talipan around 11:30 a.m., Colonel Ramil Montilla, Quezon police director, said in a report.

Clarines was waiting for his transportation to Bicol when arrested.

Clarines, a resident of Caramoan town in Camarines Sur province, yielded 200 pieces of improvised blasting caps with detonating cord and 150 kilos of ammonium nitrates.

In a follow-up operation an hour later, the authorities arrested Mark Romell Deligente, 28, resident of Pagbilao, in a checkpoint in front of a police detachment also in Talipan along the Maharlika Highway.

The suspect was on board a van loaded with 300 pieces of improvised blasting caps and 2,250 kilos of ammonium nitrate.

The report said the suspect tried to hide the materials for making explosives when he sensed the ongoing operation.
