Transport authorities to formulate roadmap to address aviation issues

MANILA, Philippines — After President Rodrigo Duterte’s surprise inspection at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) on Monday, transport authorities immediately met to formulate a roadmap to address airport and aviation issues, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said.

The DOTr said Duterte’s visit is an “expression and manifestation of his deep concern for the welfare of the air-riding public.”

It added that the President’s effort in meeting with aviation authorities show “his drive to seek the best modality and platform in meeting the objective of resolving airport and aviation concerns at the fastest possible time.”

“Following the President’s inspection at the Naia, DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade immediately met with aviation and airport officials to formulate a roadmap to address the objective sought to be achieved by the President in order to provide a comfortable life to the Filipino people, particularly in this case, the air-riding public,” the DOTr said in a statement.

The DOTr, along with the MIAA, CAAP, Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) and Office of Transportation Security (OTS), said it remains committed to ensuring “safe, secure, and convenient” transportation for Filipinos and guests throughout the country.

President Duterte made a surprise inspection at the Naia Terminal 2 and apologized to passengers affected by flight delays and cancellations due to a lightning alert on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Miaa General Manager Ed Monreal said flight operations at the airport are already normalizing after the more than two-hour suspension of ground movement for ramp personnel and aircraft due to a lightning alert which resulted in the diversion of several flights. (Editor: Eden Estopace)
