MASBATE CITY — Vice President Leni Robredo said on Wednesday that voters in the coming elections would need to empower themselves to be heard.

“We need to make ourselves strong that public officials would fear us, not the other way around,” she said, speaking in Filipino, during the launching of the Ahon Laylayan coalition at the Liceo de Masbate in this city, which was attended by about 500 people from different sectors.

“If a person knows his rights under the law, he would be able to defend it,” she said.

Robredo said that the power was in the voters’ hands and not on the politicians.

During her visit, the Vice President also campaigned for the Otso Diretso, the eight opposition senatorial candidates, and expressed high hopes for a victory in the May 13 elections.

She reminded the people to vote based on their conviction and not because they were told to do so.
