Bayan Muna to sue Manila Water over water supply woes
MANILA, Philippines – The militant group Bayan Muna on Friday said it will sue Manila Water Co. Inc. over the water supply crisis and stressed that the “mere resignation” of its chief operating officer (COO) cannot ease the “anguish and inconvenience they caused to their costumers.”
In a statement, Bayan Muna chairman Neri Colmenares said that the resignation of Manila Water COO Geodino Carpio amid the water supply shortage “is not enough.”
“They should be held accountable for their gross incompetence and they should be punished. The anguish and inconvenience they caused to their costumers cannot be assuaged by a mere resignation,” Colmenares said.
“In this light we will file a case against them so that they will learn that they cannot break their contract with their customers and get away with it,” he added.
Carpio, who has served Manila Water for 22 years, resigned early this week.
However, the east concessionaire, which announced Carpio’s resignation, did not disclose the reason behind his resignation.
