37 suspected cocaine blocks recovered off Dinagat Islands

MANILA, Philippines — At least 37 blocks of suspected cocaine were recovered by local police near the shoreline of the Municipality of Cagdianao in the Dinagat Islands.

According to reports from the Police Regional Office 13 (PRO-13) on Thursday evening, the suspected cocaine blocks were found floating by a fisherman from Sition Habongan in Barangay Poblacion, Cagdianao on Tuesday afternoon.

The recovered blocks were brought to the Crime Laboratory Office of PRO-13 for examination.

“Cagdianao MPS (Municipal Police Station) received a report from (the fisherman) that unknown substances were drifting ashore at said place.  Immediately, personnel of Cagdianao MPS responded and recovered 37 blocks of suspected cocaine,” PRO-13 said in their official report.

This is the second time in less than a week that suspected cocaine were found floating at sea. Earlier, some P5.4 million worth of cocaine were seized off  Vinzons in Camarines Norte.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police commended the fisherman for informing authorities about the floating cocaine.

“The PNP commends the good deed of the fisherman for his active participation and vigilance in making his community safe,” PNP said in a message to reporters.  /muf
