Cop assigned in Makati warrant unit slain in Manila ambush

MANILA, Philippines — A policeman assigned at the Makati City Police Station was killed in an ambush in Malate, Manila on Wednesday.

SPO1 Reynaldo Jimenez, of the Makati PNP’s Warrant Section, was gunned down by riding-in-tandem gunmen while he was on board his car along Zobel Roxas Street corner Arellano Avenue at 8:15 a.m., police said.

Jimenez was rushed to St. Claire Hospital in Barangay Palanan but died while while undergoing treatment. The perpetrators fled toward Zobel Roxas Street corner P. Ocampo Street on board a red motorcycle.

According to police, one of the suspects was wearing a black shirt, denim pants and a black helmet, while the other was wearing a black shirt and short pants.

Senior Supt. Rogelio Simon, chief of the Makati City Police Station, told INQUIRER.net that investigators are looking into several angles regarding the motive behind the murder, which include Jimenez’ line of work as a warrant section police officer and some of his personal dealings.

Police are still conducting manhunt operations against the assailants as of this posting. /jpv
