BREAK: Gov’t sets rehab for El Nido

An interagency body is set to undertake a massive cleanup on the island resort town of El Nido in Palawan, an environment official said on Wednesday.

Environment Undersecretary Benny Antiporda said top government officials agreed to launch the rehabilitation of El Nido, amid the worsening problems of garbage and unregulated construction of structures there.

“We are seeing the dismantling all illegal structures that will be found to have encroached the easement,” he said.

He made the announcement on the sidelines of a meeting among Secretaries Roy Cimatu (Environment), Bernadette Romulo-Puyat (Tourism) and acting Secretary Eduardo Año (Interior and Local Government), and local officials of El Nido. /cbb
