Army destroys illegal guns

CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao — The military on Thursday destroyed hundreds of unlicensed guns surrendered to authorities by their owners.

The guns were from owners in the provinces of Maguindanao, Sultan Kudarat and North Cotabato.

Major Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, head of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division (ID), said the guns were given up by their owners under a disarmament campaign by the military.

Sobejana, other military and civilian officials witnessed the destruction of the weapons that was made to coincide with the 6th ID’s founding anniversary.

A road roller was used to destroy the firearms, which included homemade machine guns, mortar launchers and antitank rockets.
