Bam Aquino on Imee’s Senate bid: She has the freedom to run

Opposition Liberal Party (LP) Senate bet Bam Aquino on Tuesday said Imee Marcos has the freedom to run for senator in the May 2019 midterm elections.

“Malaya po ating bansa, madami po ang pwedeng pagpilian,” reelectionist Aquino said when asked to comment on Marcos’ Senate bid.

Aquino on Tuesday filed his certificate of candidacy for senator at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) headquarters in Intramuros, Manila.

“I think at the end of the day, ang taong bayan po ang mamimili kung sino po yung gusto nilang leader nila,” he added.

For his part, LP Senate bet and lawyer Chel Diokno said Marcos has the right to run for a Senate seat.

“At parang nung panahon ng tatay ko, katapat niya si Marcos (former President Ferdinand Marcos). E ‘di ganun din tayo ngayon,” (It was like the time my father faced Marcos, it is the same now) he added referring to his father, Jose “Pepe” Diokno, who was an opposition senator during the regime of the late President Marcos.

Marcos will be running for Senate under the Nacionalista Party. /muf
