Army reservist, companion slain in Davao drug bust
DAVAO CITY — An Army reservist and his companion were killed in an anti-drugs operation by police here on Monday night.
Senior Insp. Ma. Teresita Gaspan, Davao City Police Office spokesperson, said Jaime Moin and Alvin Daris of Landmark, Buhangin district, were killed when they tried to fight during the police buy-bust operation at 9:10 pm at the Belisario Village, San Antonio, Agdao here on Monday.
During the transaction, Moin, a member of the Army Reserve Command, suddenly pulled a caliber .45 pistol and tried to shoot at the lawmen as Daris showed signs of resistance, prompting police to open fire, Gaspan said.
The suspects were rushed to the nearest hospital but were declared dead upon arrival by the attending physician.
Gaspan said police recovered at the scene six sachets of suspected shabu (crystal meth) with an estimated street value of P13,000; a caliber 45 pistol and the suspects’ personal belongings. FRINSTON LIM
