2 suspected motorbike thieves killed in Laguna shootout

SAN PEDRO CITY-Two suspected motorcycle thieves were killed in a shootout with local police in this city early Saturday.

Supt. Chitadel Gaoiran, spokesperson of the Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon (Calabarzon) police said the shootout happened around 1 a.m. in Barangay (village) Pacita Complex 1B.

She said that prior to the shootout, police tried to stop two unidentified suspects who were aboard a motorcycle at a checkpoint between San Pedro City and Biñan City.

But instead of stopping, the suspects sped past the checkpoint and opened fire at the police officers. The officers then gave chase, triggering a running shootout that ended in Barangay Pacita.

Police identified the slain suspects only by their aliases “Jumbo” and “Hatch.” The two suspects who died at the scene are allegedly car thieves from Biñan City, police said.

Recovered each from the suspects were .38 caliber revolvers. /muf
