Special task force formed to probe Ombudsman prosecutor’s murder

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has created a nine-member special task force to investigate the killing of an assistant special prosecutor of the Office of the Ombudsman, its director Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel Jr. said Monday.

Esquivel said the QCPD has activated a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) to probe the death of Assistant Special Prosecutor Madonna Joy Ednaco-Tanyag, who was stabbed to death in front of a lottery outlet on Visayas Avenue in Barangay Vasra, Quezon City at around 11:20 a.m. on Monday.

Dubbed as SITG Tanyag, the task force is led by Senior Supt. Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, who will lead the nine-member team to facilitate the speedy resolution of the case.

Esquivel said in a statement that while they are looking into many different angles, authorities are looking into robbery as the main motive of the killing.

“Aside from the immediate creation of SITG Tanyag, police investigators are reviewing closed circuit television recordings at the crime scene to identify the suspect,” he added.

Witness Arjay Cunanan said a female concerned citizen had called his attention after seeing Tanyag lying bloodied on the ground.

Cunanan sought the assistance of Barangay Vasra officials who responded and rushed the victim to the East Avenue Medical Center where she died while undergoing treatment. /ee
