Suspect in Eriguel slay nabbed in Agoo, La Union
A suspect in the fatal shooting of former La Union Rep. Eufranio Eriguel has been arrested by the police, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Dir. Gen. Oscar D. Albayalde said on Tuesday.
In a press briefing, Albayalde said La Union police arrested the suspect on Saturday night at Barangay Capas in Agoo.
The suspect, identified as Felizardo Villanueva, was arrested on Monday and is currently detained in Agoo police station, Albayalde said.
Albayalde said investigators have yet to establish Villanueva’s motive. According to police, Villanueva was a candidate for barangay captain in Capas in the recently concluded barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
Eriguel was reportedly supporting the candidacy of Villanueva’s rival, police said.
