The kidnappers of two policewomen and two others snatched in Sulu are asking for P5-million in ransom, Philippine National Police (PNP) Dir. Gen. Oscar D. Albayalde said Wednesday.

Albayalde said kidnapped officers Police Officer (PO) 2 Benierose Alvarez and PO1 Dinah Gumahad are still alive according to Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) director Chief Supt. Graciano Mijares.

“As of this time wala pa talagang maliwanag [na update] although we have negotiators. We seek help from the local chief executive doon and ang hinihinging ransom initially is total of P5 million for the whole,” Albayalde said in a press briefing.

(As of this time, there is really no clear update.)

The two policewomen and two others were abducted on Sunday afternoon in Patikul, Sulu by 11 armed men believed to be members of an Abu Sayyaf splinter group led by a certain Mujir Yada.

According to reports from the military, the two policewomen and the two others, had just left Camp Teodulfo Bautista, and were onboard a tricycle when they were abducted in Barangay Liang.    /muf
