The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) released on Monday a teaser on the New Generation Currency Coin Series, as it is set to launch six new coin designs that highlight the country’s endemic plants.

In a video posted by the BSP, the P1, P5, and P10 coin features the same national heroes – Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, and Apolinario Mabini, respectively. However, its backsides were engraved with native plants such as Waling-Waling for the P1-coin, Tayabak for the P5-coin and Kapa-Kapa for the P10-coin.

Meanwhile, the 1 centavo, 3 centavo, and 25 centavos coins still bear the Philippine flag on one side, and this time, as well as indigenous plants Mangkono, Kapal-Kapal Baging, and Katmon on the other side, respectively.

The BSP, however, did say exactly when the new coins will be released to the public. But the BSP already released the new P5-coin for public use in 2017.    /kga
