LUCENA CITY–A drunk man shot and wounded a 13-year-old boy in Mauban town in Quezon province Friday night.
The victim identified as “Alvin” was walking with five other companions in Barangay (village) San Miguel around 8:40 p.m. when the suspect, identified only as “Juan”, 61, came out of his house and, without provocation, shot the victim using an improvised caliber .22 long firearm.
The boy suffered a bullet wound on his back and was rushed to Mauban District Hospital for emergency treatment. He was later transferred to Quezon Medical Center in Lucena.
Police arrested the suspect who was found to be under the influence of liquor. The lawmen confiscated the firearm loaded with six bullets.
In San Francisco town also in Quezon province, a report from Quezon police said Ryan Salazar, 31, was shot by Arnulfo Narez in Barangay Inabuan around 12:05 a.m. Saturday after a drinking session.
After the merrymaking, the victim left the group. His mother was trying to pacify her son from causing trouble when the suspect, who was hiding in the dark, suddenly came out and shot the victim with a still unknown gun caliber hitting him in the chest and head.
The victim died on the spot. The suspect fled after the shooting.
Police have yet to establish the motive behind the shooting, said San Francisco police chief Senior Insp. Aaron Herrera in a phone interview Saturday morning.
