OFW from Saudi Arabia shot dead in Pasig City
Just hours after arriving in Manila from Saudi Arabia on Monday evening, a 47-year-old overseas Filipino worker (OFW) was shot dead by an unidentified gunman in Pasig City.
In his report to the Eastern Police District, Pasig City Police chief Senior Supt Orlando Yebra Jr said Ricardo Monteroyo of Centennial 2, Brgy Pinagbuhatan was shot twice in the head along Bigasan St in Brgy Caniogan at around 8:20 pm.
Yebra said Monteroyo was walking with his relatives Roel Moteroyo and Jaylenuel Monteroyo, 12, along the alley near two fast food stalls when the gunman appeared from behind and fired twice.
In an interview with Inquirer Tuesday, PO2 Danilo Damasco said the gunman could have been following the victim.
Damasco, quoting the victim’s wife Miraluna, said Monteroyo had received death threats in relation to an investment activity he allegedly joined three years ago.
“Sometime in 2015, he joined an investment, networking activity, and recruited other people. The investment failed, so the (investors) were after him. The wife learned this in 2016,” Damasco said.

The gunman, according to Damasco, waited for the OFW’s two companions to pass by the alley before shooting the victim. Monteroyo died on the spot, the responding Pasi Emergency Unit said.
The suspect who was seen wearing a cap, then fled casually towards A. Mabini St. in Brgy. Kapasigan.
Two cartridge cases were recovered by police from the crime scene. Monteroyo’s body is now at the Funeraria Quiogue in Pasig.
Investigators meanwhile are conducting follow-up operations to track down the gunman. /muf
