NCRPO: Expect network signal shutdown in future Black Nazarene feasts

The shutdown of cellphone signals in Quiapo will be used as a template in future Black Nazarene feasts, the Metro Manila police chief said Wednesday.
“There’s still a lot to improve with regards to security. Una, ang communication magiging template sa pagpatay ng communication signal, National Capital Region Police Office Police (NCRPO) Director Oscar Albayalde told reporters in a press briefing.
(First, the shutdown of communications signal will be a template.)
The police official said the jamming of network signals during large gatherings could also be considered if the use of mobile phones is not necessary.
“Gaya ng Asean, kelangan ng ating mga foreign counterparts and delegates yung mga VIPs natin. There are activities na hindi necessary yung signal,” he said.
(Like in the Asean, our foreign counterparts and delegates, our VIPs need signals. [But] there are activities that cellphone signal is not necessary.)
A total of 7.6 million devotees participated in this year’s feast of the Black Nazarene, the largest gathering of members of the Catholic church in the Philippines. /jpv
